In my personal opinion, stories are the most essential part of humanity. Stories have taught us everything from those early lessons of don’t talk to strangers to our concepts of faith, morality and and how to navigate the twists and turns of life. in my early years, stories helped me to understand the world. I never had a father to teach me what being a man meant so those lessons were taught by King Arthur, Beowulf, Odysseus, Robin Hood and Brer Rabbit. Anansi The Spider taught me that wits and intellect can trump strength and I learned from Sir Gawain that you just have to be true to your word to be worth anything at all. Fairy Tales, folklore, mythology, fantasy, horror, science fiction, mystery, poetry and literary fiction will always feel like home to me. As I progress along the path of the artist, I want to explore the potential of illustration. I may have never met Conan if not for Frank Frazetta’s epic book covers. I may never have pushed so hard to continue my sketchbook exercises if not for those illustrated plates by The Brothers Hildebrant, inside ‘The Sword of Shannara.” I hope that my twisted intepretations will some day help a young reader decide to pick up a book in a world full of digital distraction and instant gratification.
